The lower the voltage, the less the risk is of electrical shock or a potential fire. This not only helps reduce the risk of installation but is also helpful in areas with lots of moisture.
Lower-voltage lighting requires less energy to run. Transformers help manage the power supply, ensuring efficient operation and reduced energy consumption. It also leads to a lower electricity bill.
A transformer's primary function is to reduce the number of volts required by your lighting system, making it safer and more usable.
Ensuring that your lighting system is supplied with the correct voltage extends the lifespan of your fixtures and bulbs. If they get overloaded with volts, the lights can be damaged, leading to their needing replacement. Undervoltage can cause poor performance.
Many of our transformers are equipped with photocells and interval timers, allowing you to control your lighting system easily. These features let you automatically schedule when your lights turn on and off, helping to conserve energy and eliminating the need to switch them on and off manually.
LED lights perform best with consistent and regulated low-voltage power transformers provide. Since many of our lighting fixtures utilize LED bulbs, getting a transformer is the best way to ensure you get the most out of your lighting system.
Installing lighting fixtures in mortar applications can be challenging, but using an integrator simplifies the process and ensures a flawless finish. Available in 4", 6", or 18" sizes, the integrator is designed specifically for a 1/2" mortar bed, providing a precise fit. The stainless steel insert sleeve adds durability, while the included fasteners and flexible conduit make connecting the fixture behind the wall easy. Our integrator ensures proper alignment and leveling, so when the mortared cap is in place, the lighting fixture can be smoothly inserted, resulting in a clean, professional installation every time.
Using high-quality connectors for low-voltage landscape lighting installations is crucial for ensuring durability and reliability. Our connectors, pre-filled with 100% silicone sealant, provide superior protection against moisture and corrosion, safeguarding your electrical connections in even the harshest outdoor conditions. Designed for use in direct burial or temporary submersion, these connectors deliver a dependable connection that lasts, reducing the need for maintenance or repairs.
Choosing a suitable low-voltage cable is essential for the success and longevity of your landscape lighting installation. Our 12/2 gauge low-voltage direct burial cable is explicitly designed for shallow burial—less than 6 inches—making it easy to install without extensive digging. The UV-resistant jacket protects the cable from sun damage, ensuring durability and performance even when exposed to outdoor elements. Supplied in a convenient 500-foot spool, this cable provides ample length for larger projects, allowing you to connect multiple lighting fixtures easily.
The type of transformer you need for your low-voltage lighting system will depend on the voltage requirements of the lights, the total wattage of all the lights you’re using, and whether they offer the needed buffer of 20-30% of the total voltage. You’ll also want to consider the type of transformer, its dimming capabilities, whether it's for indoor or outdoor use, and the additional features it includes.
This will depend on the total wattage of your lighting and the transformer’s wattage capacity. So, if you have 10 lights that are 10 watts, the total voltage of your lighting is 100. Since you’ll want at least a 20% buffer, you’ll want a transformer that’s 120 watts to accommodate all 10 lights. This means you could have varying lights on one transformer, depending on which one you choose
To wire your transformer, you’ll need to splice and connect the wires. In addition, you may need to bury them. Check out our installation guide for a more in-depth guide on wiring low-voltage lighting systems.
To install a transformer, you’ll need to mount it on the floor or wall, depending on your chosen type, prepare the wiring, and connect the power supply and load. Again, our installation guide is valuable for setting up your low-voltage lighting system.
To add lights to existing concrete steps or walls, you’ll need to mark drill holes where you want to place the lights and then begin to drill those holes. To make the installation process easier and more precise, our integrators fit seamlessly into the space where you want to place lights in your concrete steps. These integrators have a stainless steel insert sleeve, fasteners, and a flexible conduit for easy behind-the-wall connections. The integrators maintain proper alignment and leveling during installation, ensuring that once the mortar is applied, the light fixtures can be easily inserted for a seamless finish. This system simplifies the process and guarantees a professional-looking result.
