Landscape Fabric FAQs

Use SB2 (Spunbond) for garden weed control and light landscaping. Use SS5 (Woven) under driveways, patios, and walkways for base stabilization and soil separation. Use NW4 (Non-Woven) for high-flow drainage and soil filtration behind retaining walls and in French drains.

Woven fabric acts as a heavy-duty separation barrier between native subgrade soil and crushed aggregate bases. By preventing fine soils from migrating up into the gravel, it stops rutting and settling, extending hardscape lifespan by 50% to 70%.

Non-woven fabric features randomly felted fibers that allow extremely high water flow while filtering out fine silt. This prevents clogs in French drains, perforated pipes, and drainage rock behind retaining walls.

For garden weed barriers (SB2) and non-woven drainage fabrics (NW4), overlap seams by 4 to 6 inches. For structural woven stabilization fabric (SS5) under driveways or patios, overlap seams by 18 to 24 inches depending on subgrade soil conditions.

Anchor the fabric smoothly using metal fabric staples. Secure weed barriers and non-woven drainage fabrics at a rate of approximately 1.2 staples per square yard, and woven stabilization fabric at roughly 1.3 staples per square yard.
