Benefits of Landscape Lighting Accessories

Efficiency

landscape lighting accessories

LED‑optimized systems use far less energy, run cooler, and last longer. With landscape lighting accessories like efficient drivers and stainless transformers, voltage drop and heat stress are minimized, connectors endure, and bulbs rarely need replacement—cutting power bills and maintenance over the life of the install.

Automation

Photocells turn lights on at dusk and off at dawn automatically, tracking seasonal changes without reprogramming. Smart sockets add app control for instant remote on/off, custom schedules, and timers, so you can adjust routines on the fly and integrate with home networks—no manual switches, no walking outside.

Safety

Low-voltage landscape lighting drops 120V to 12V to cut shock risk. Use outdoor‑rated, sealed gel‑filled or heat‑shrink connectors to block moisture and prevent shorts and corrosion. Pair stainless steel transformers with proper 12‑2 gauge cable to limit voltage drop and heat, delivering safe, consistent performance season after season.

Landscape Lighting Accessories FAQs

The strongest setups use solid‑metal, LED fixtures on a low‑voltage backbone, powered by a quality transformer, with thoughtful beam spreads and automation.

Steps 120V down to 12V and feeds multiple lighting runs. Pick 150W or 300W stainless units based on total fixture load.

Provides dusk‑to‑dawn automation, turning lights on at sunset and off at sunrise without programming.

  • Choose LED: High‑impact effects, long runs, architectural uplighting, dependable year‑round.
  • Choose solar: Quick, budget accents where wiring is impractical and brightness isn’t critical.

LED fixtures are designed for continuous use, drawing minimal power and producing little heat, so overnight operation doesn’t strain components.

To select the correct size transformer for your low-voltage landscape lighting, begin by calculating the total wattage of all the landscape lighting in your system. For example, if you have ten 10-watt lights, the total wattage is 100 watts. From there, you can select the transformer with the suitable capacity for that total wattage. Typically, a transformer with a capacity of 20-30% more than the total wattage is best. You may need a larger transformer or multiple transformers if you plan to spread the lights over a considerable distance.

The number of LED lights you can connect to a low-voltage transformer depends on the total wattage of the lights and the transformer’s capacity. To calculate, add the wattage of all the LED lights you plan to use. For example, if each LED light consumes 5 watts and you have a 150-watt transformer, you can safely connect up to 30 LED lights (150 watts ÷ 5 watts per light). Always ensure the total wattage of the connected lights does not exceed the transformer’s capacity.

  • Reliable, knowledgeable, and friendly! Sauder's was one of the suppliers we used last year to build our paver patio & retaining wall. They were the ONLY supplier to suggest a border to break up the same color on the patio and wall, and we are SO happy we took their advice!
