Application Instructions

Construction Site Requirements

• A stable, load-bearing structure, a water-permeable sub-base, and the bedding layer
• We recommend the PHNA Xtreme Trass Beddin Compound (vdw 480)
• Must be correctly designed and installed for the anticipated traffic loads and in accordance with ASTM.
• PHNA Xtreme Easy jointing compound is designed for the quick and easy grouting of concrete pavers, ceramic tile, and natural stone.
• The Xtreme Easy cannot be used to compensate for any settlement of the substructure.
• Movement joints must be installed as necessary to comply with the required structural design and any anticipated levels of movement.
• The PHNA Xtreme Easy jointing compound can be applied on damp/wet paving and even in light rain.

Preparation

• Clean the surface thoroughly of all dirt, cement residues, organic materials, or any other possible contaminants, including cleaning out all of the joints to the required depth.
• We recommend a pre-treatment with the PHNA Xtreme Stone Protect 3-in-1 (vdw 950) for any porous and/or sensitive paving surfaces.
• Please allow at least 24 hours after application before grouting.
• Thoroughly pre-wet the surface of the paving and mask adjacent surfaces that are not to be jointed.
• Always use clean and fresh tap water.

Filling the Joints

1. Open your bucket of PHNA Xtreme Easy jointing compound and cut open the vacuum-sealed packaging.
2. Pour the PHNA Xtreme Easy jointing compound directly onto the pre-wetted surface in small piles.
3. Add water to the material using a gentle water spray, and work the self-compacting material thoroughly into the joints using a rubber/foam squeegee and/or stiff broom.
4. If the product’s viscosity diminishes, re-moisten by spraying lightly with water from a hose.
5. The paved area must be kept constantly wet during application.
6. We recommend working from the highest to the lowest points.
7. All tools and shoes should be regularly cleaned with water.

Cleaning Off

1. Remove any excess PHNA Xtreme Easy jointing compound residue from the area by spraying lightly with water from a hose.
2. Avoid washing material out of the joints.
3. Be careful to clean the paved surface towards areas not yet jointed.
4. Do not allow any water containing residues to pond, stand, or dry out on the completed areas.
5. Finally, remove any remaining fine residues with a damp fiber brush
6. Do not brush any residual dry material into any unfilled joints.
7. Chamfers must be brushed free carefully, as performance cannot be guaranteed on these.
8. Clean this brush in water frequently.

Important Information

• Stay off the freshly applied areas and protect them from heavy rain for a period of 24 hours, or until the paving surface is no longer tacky.
• A strength test should be carried out before final clearance of the area after 7 days.
• A very thin film of the resin binder may remain on rough surfaces or surfaces not cleaned thoroughly.
• This film will disappear after a period of exposure to traffic and weathering.
• The PHNA Xtreme Easy is not recommended for use around swimming pools.
• We recommend our Xtreme Ceramic or Xtreme Plus jointing compound.
