Landscape Lighting Transformers & Accessories

Transformers use magnetic or electronic conversion to reduce incoming household power to a safer level—typically 12/15V for landscape lighting. Our resin units include interval timers and photocells for automatic control and stable 12–24V output. Choose the right landscape lighting transformer for top performance and long life, and finish your system with essentials like connectors, timers, and low‑voltage cables. Explore our accessories to build a durable, efficient setup.

Sauder's Hardscape Supply carries the following brands: Integral, BOLD, Lumien, lume, Brilliance LED

Landscape Lighting Transformer Uses

Accents & Uplifts

Use landscape lighting transformer zones with individual timers for spots and uplights. Multi‑tap outputs keep voltage even across long runs to distant trees and tall facades. Separate circuits let you layer canopies, trunks, and wall washes without overloading, and schedule dusk ramp‑ups with later fade‑outs for curb appeal and security.

Water Features

Make pool and water‑feature lighting safe and reliable: step mains to 12/15V, isolate circuits, and power via GFCI. Use weather‑rated enclosures with sealed connectors and stainless hardware, place units away from spray, and schedule with timers or photo‑eyes for clean, dependable illumination.

Pathways

Landscape lighting transformers power pathway circuits at 12/15V, delivering even brightness along long runs and stairs by compensating for voltage drop with multi‑tap outputs. Central timers or photo‑eyes turn lights on at dusk for safety and wayfinding, while separate zones let you dim or schedule edges, landings, and step lights differently.

Landscape Lighting Transformer FAQs

Choose a transformer based on your lights’ voltage and total wattage, with a 20–30% capacity buffer. Consider dimming, indoor vs. outdoor rating, and any extra features.

It depends on your total load and the transformer’s capacity. Example: 10 lights × 10W = 100W. Add at least a 20% buffer, so choose a 120W transformer. You can mix different fixtures on one unit as long as the combined wattage stays within the transformer’s rated output (plus buffer).

To wire your transformer, you’ll need to splice and connect the wires. In addition, you may need to bury them. Check out our installation guide for a more in-depth guide on wiring low-voltage lighting systems.

To install a transformer, you’ll need to mount it on the floor or wall, depending on your chosen type, prepare the wiring, and connect the power supply and load. Again, our installation guide is valuable for setting up your low-voltage lighting system.

Mark the fixture locations. 2) Drill holes at each mark. 3) Insert our integrators (stainless sleeve, fasteners, flexible conduit) for clean behind‑the‑wall connections. 4) Set integrators to hold alignment and level. 5) Apply mortar. 6) Slide fixtures into the sleeves for a seamless, professional finish.

Safety

Lower voltage reduces shock and fire risk, making installation safer—especially in damp or wet areas. It’s the standard for landscape lighting because it limits hazard, keeps code compliance simpler, and gives you peace of mind around sprinklers, pools, and heavy dew.

Energy Efficiency

Low‑voltage lighting draws less power, so it’s cheaper to run and easier on your electrical system. A landscape lighting transformer regulates and steps down the supply, preventing waste, stabilizing output, and improving efficiency—results you’ll see as lower energy use and a smaller electric bill.

Longevity

Correct voltage protects components and extends fixture life. Overvoltage overheats LEDs and drivers, causing early failure; undervoltage dims output and shifts color. A properly sized transformer and balanced circuits keep voltage in spec across long runs for consistent brightness and reliability.
